Comments: John Pierson: Dear Mike...

Pierson seems rather sad. Taking Moore to task because he had hoped Fahrenheit 9/11 would oust Bush and it didn't? What?

This quote of Pierson's is frankly embarassing for Pierson: "You utterly & completely missed the bigger story of America essentially abandoning and outsourcing all our manufacturing-based industries. And why shouldn't we since the fundamental engines of the economy are always changing. Are there any steel plants left in Pittsburgh?" So, Pierson is really arguing that Moore didn't give a shit about outsourcing, NAFTA, and so on? And that all of these economic events are just ... okay? Did he bother to watch Moore's The Big One? Pierson knows film, but he comes off as ridiculously politically naive here.

Pierson has one marginally interesting point (about Moore's meetings with Smith), and the rest is just ... weird. Pierson offers all of this placating, effusive praise (and I suppose he should, for Pierson's mediocre book owes a lot to Moore), but at the root is a lot of personal outrage over Moore's films. Which, frankly, I don't see why anyone should care about.

Anyway, it's made me want to see Sicko even more. I think I'll go this weekend.
