SUMMER VIEWING: Toons in Tinseltown

Greetings from sunny Los Angeles. I've been off the radar for a few days because I'm here this week covering InFilm's 5-day F/X program, which I'll chronicle this weekend. As part of the workshop, I'll be attending a hot-ticket conversation tonight (at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) between Pixar mastermind John Lasseter and Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, two industry titans who will not be meeting for the first time:

Relatedly, as the interwebs have been abuzz about Tim Burton's upcoming adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, it seemed appropriate to commemorate the (un)birthday of Disney's original animated version, which was released 58 years ago today:
