PODCAST: Oscars 2009 Pre-Game
The Academy Awards begin at 8pm EST on Sunday night, and as GreenCine guru Craig Phillips mentioned below, he'll be hosting an ultra-fabulous, high-tech live blog during the ceremony. I'll be making guest appearances throughout the night, as will a whole gaggle of witty film bloggers and other charismatic cineastes, and we hope you'll join us, too.
Until then, the San Francisco-based Craig and I had one last cross-country conversation about the nominations, who we expect to win, which was the worst year ever for Best Picture nominees (hint: it's been longer than you think), and how to turn both the Oscars and our podcast into a drinking game.

For Craig, I believe The Edge of Heaven was eligible last year. And was one of many omissions.
Posted by: Joe Bowman at February 19, 2009 7:12 PMThanks Joe! I had a sinking feeling that was the case -- either way, was an auspicious omission.
Btw, to finish the thought about 1968:
a sampling of films that weren't even nominated that year: Besides 2001 a Space Odyssey, Planet of theApes and Once Upon a Time in the West, Best Picture also ignored The Producers, Bullitt and Rosemary's Baby, among others. I'd take any of these films in a heartbeat over the 5 finalists that year. I know there are other years we could pick on, too, but that year always stood out to me.
Cheers.
