Artforum. Dec 08.

Artforum Dec 08 Of the five lists of the "Best Films of 2008" in the new print issue of Artforum, two appear online: John Waters's and Stuart Comer's. For Waters, the top spot's a tie between Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Christophe Honoré's Love Songs, while Comer goes for Duncan Campbell's Bernadette: "Campbell's sharp, spartan study of Bernadette Devlin, a fiery 1960s activist from Northern Ireland, is a remarkable meditation on the politics of history and images."

More lists! Music, books, art, naturally, and highlights of the year in general.

"Artforum invited ten artists, writers, and curators to consider the past year of flux and its cultural currents in cities across the globe." Online are "On the Ground" reports from Caroline Busta from New York, Walead Beshty from Los Angeles and Bisi Silva from Lagos.

Editor Tim Griffin looks back to September: "To walk among the glistening glass-and-steel towers lining Manhattan’s brimming streets amid the more abstract ambience of credit freezes and bailouts was to have the vague sense of dwelling in an afterimage - of living inside an impression of the past bound to dissolve as the physical environment began to catch up and finally coincide with the world as it actually is."
