The New Criterion.

Criterion With what might be taken as a nod to Chris Marker (whose pseudonym is believed to have been nabbed from a Magic Marker), a nifty orientation video featuring Jason Polan is the best guide imaginable to the new Criterion Collection site, built with the help of their friends, the Auteurs. There isn't much to add to that video for now. Watch it (it only takes four minutes), then start exploring. You'll find much, much more to watch along the way, too.

The new site apparently hasn't yet gone live. I'm sure some poor soul is trying to fix that.

I always thought Marker got his name from the story 'Little Miss Marker' by Damon Runyon...

Hm... Still working fine for me. Try again?

Neil, that's a new one on me. But of course, as much as I'd like to know the real story, I am just kidding about any sort of conscious homage. Just came to mind, is all.

David, IIRC Marker did claim to have taken the name from Magic Marker, and I've seen it cited that Resnais called him that when they worked together. However, given Marker's intentional obfuscation of his past... well, anything's possible.

Thanks, Dave. Love the Resnais bit, too, if, like you say, we can believe it.

I've looked at it in Safari and Firefox and there is still a consistent problem about loading images. Maybe its a Mac thing?

Maybe it depends on the Mac? I've got a Mac, too, and it's working fine for me... If problems persist, you might drop a line to Jon Mulvaney at mulvaney@criterion.com.
