Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) 08, 10/4.
"Strange Girls actually has more in common with Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures than, say, Halloween," writes Mike Everleth. "Like Pauline and Juliet in Jackson's film, Virginia and Georgia are working on an epic romance story and live more in the fantasy world in their heads than the real one outside in their working class Pittsburgh neighborhood. The fact that the girls are more Countess Bathory than Madame Bovary might be a reason why their 17th-century-styled romance novel is a total bust."
Dennis Cooper presents a "chronology of 26 things with Clive Barker's name on them and what he thinks about that." Also, lots of pumpkin carvers.
More scary goings on via Adam Ross: Jeremy Richey will be revisiting Halloween for 31 days straight, while, for the time being, Piper has changed his blog's name to Evil, Sinister, Blood-shot Eye Theatre.
Shock It to Me!, "San Francisco's Classic Horror Film Festival," happens on October 17 and 18.
"So what are the prospects for the movie that is probably the most hyped genre release - and outside of The Quantum of Solace, the most hyped commercial release generally - of the fall?" The movie is Twilight and the Hollywood Reporter's Steven Zeitchik has been "hunkering down in the details of the Summit project."
Matt Bailey on Girl in Room 2A: "The reporter then yells, 'Oh God, I can't stand it anymore!' and jumps out the window. I know how he feels."
