Cannes. The Rest of the Night.
"Frederico Munzi lives up to the promise he showed in his debut Saimir with this dark multi-linear drama-thriller set amongst Italy's new immigrant underclass," writes Lee Marshall in Screen Daily.
"It's a timely theme given the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration by the country's recently elected centre-right government. But this gritty, issue-raising film is also a good advertisement for Munzi's growing maturity as a director and screenwriter."
"With great skill, helped by Massimo Fiocchi's elegant editing, Munzi juggles three storylines that gradually and inexorably come together, leading to an explosion of violence," writes Jay Weissberg in Variety.
"Unfortunately, despite some noteworthy directorial touches here and there, neither the stories nor the characters ever really convince," writes Peter Brunette in the Hollywood Reporter.
The Rest of the Night screened as part of this year's Directors' Fortnight.
Coverage of the coverage: Cannes 08. Last year: Cannes @ 60. And Cannes 06.
