SXSW. Dear Zachary.

Dear Zachary I'll have more from SXSW just as soon as I possibly can, but I do want to go ahead and type out all I'll be saying for the time being about Dear Zachary: See it.

Director Kurt Kuenne was not at liberty to elaborate in the Q&A this evening, but it does sound as if a distribution deal is in the works, so you may well get the chance. This is not a perfect documentary. I do think that the concerns that David Lowery raises in his comment on the Slamdance entry are legitimate. That said, I have not been so emotionally walloped by a film in years.

Okay, that goes on to the "I want to be walloped" list. Looking forward to your future reports, David.

Hi David, I just happened to view a screener of ZACHARY two nights ago at home. I agree with you, what an emotionally devastating film, especially, I think, for people with children. The sordid and beyond tragic turn the film takes was pummeling. Enjoy the rest of your week at SW! Cathleen

Well, this is hardly faint praise! Thank you, David. From your (short) comment, and those of others posted on the DZ site, it seems almost certain we'll be able to see this one. Any movie (outside of "Titanic") that has this enornous an effect on film-goers will surely be snapped up....
