Lists. Vue Weekly.

Vue Weekly "2007 was a year characterized by my ever-growing awareness of just how many good movies get made these days only to find themselves mired in distribution limbo," writes Josef Braun in Vue Weekly's "Best of 2007" issue. Still, "some fine local programmers keep working arduously to siphon the gems from the germs," and he's "as pleasantly surprised as anyone to see how many Canadian movies are represented" on his list of the best that screened in Edmonton. Naturally, David Cronenberg, Guy Maddin and Sarah Polley are all in there.

Brian Gibson takes a fresh approach: seasonal. You'll see. His "top three track a woman trying to get an abortion in a Romania before the Iron Curtain fell, a black man wrongfully convicted and jailed for 19 years in the South and brothers torn apart by the struggle for independence in 1920s Ireland."

And Gibson and Braun list, respectively, the "Top 5 First-run DVDs" and "Top 5 Reissued DVDs."
