Markku Peltola, 1957 - 2007.
Finnish actor Markku Peltola died Monday at age 51. Peltola was best known for his role in Aki Kaurismäki's The Man Without a Past (2002), the story of a down-and-out amnesiac who slowly rebuilds his life by moving into an industrial container with "sea view" and wooing a reluctant soup kitchen volunteer.... Peltola also appeared in Kaurismäki's Juha (1999) and Drifting Clouds (1996), as well as over 30 film and television roles.

Very sad news, and a huge loss for Scandinavian cinema.
Posted by: Karsten at January 1, 2008 5:08 PMA bad last few months- Ulrich Muhe went far too early as well - at least their memorable performances will always be with us.
Posted by: Film Festival Geek at January 1, 2008 6:02 PMSad news. Markku Peltola was great in The Man Without a Past, one of my all-time favourite films.

First Pellonpaa (at age 44) and now this? What the hell is going on with Kaurismaki's actors? This is terrible news.
