What a loss for world cinema. To think that the man who graced so many wonderful films, from Spirit of the Beehive to The City of No Limits, will no longer be making movies (as actor, writer or director) is a sad thought. Gomez was as integral a part of Spanish cinema as was Michel Serrault to French cinema, and both were among the world's finest actors. Losing them in the same year is as much a blow to international film as was losing Antonioni and Bergman. If you have not seen The City With No Limits, give it a try. A fine movie in so many ways, it also allows Fernando Fernan Gomez to give one of the richest performances of his latter days.
