31 Days, 10/2.

Der Golem "A mad mass of blogs are presenting various incarnations of the 31 days of horror movies-theme this Halloween season, so we here at Facets Features decided to throw a severed head into the ring. 31 days. 31 horror clips." Starting with a scene from Der Golem: wie er in die Welt kam.

"I'd like to celebrate Halloween this year by focusing a month's writing upon lesser known horror films and also trying to avoid the Anglosphere as much as possible," announces Alex at motion picture, it's called.

Megan Weireter at Not Coming to a Theater Near You on My Bloody Valentine: "Yes, the film exploits the uniquely terrifying - and sexy! - opportunities a coal mine presents, but ultimately the coal mine is dazzle, and anyone who loves a textbook slasher film will feel right at home here."

Day 2 for Rob Humanick: 28 Days Later.

And while it's not a month-long project, here's an online browsing and viewing tip. Andrew Bemis's "Top 10: Vampires."

Hi Green Guys,

You only need to go back a few months to compare and realize that this blog was much more interested than nowadays, and that is because it used to be so varied and rich. PLEASE, enough of Toronto and Venice.... look for some other stuff- please.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. I do think that, in the case of Toronto this year, less would have been more. But brace yourself for another day or two, and once that index is posted, that'll finally be that.

It's remarkable how drastically the mediascape changes each year. I keep experimenting with different ways of handling various annual events (not just festivals, but also year-end lists, awards seasons and, for that matter, seasons in general, particularly summer and fall). Some experiments work, others don't. The Daily's "coverage of the coverage" seems to work best when it comes to Cannes, where nearly every film in Competition is its own news item, while, on the other hand, not that many film bloggers can get there. So there's an interesting balance of a few intrepid bloggers, the trades and a dab of mainstream media coverage.

But the balance, I've discovered, goes totally out of whack when it comes to Toronto. There's an army of bloggers up there, never mind the trades and all the Canadian papers. I have a year to consider how to handle it next time around, but I can come pretty close to promising you that the "coverage of the coverage" won't look anything like it has this year. It's a killer to keep up with (and, as you see, I didn't).

Meantime, strategizing each time another challenge rolls around, keeping in mind how different its profile is this year as compared to last and the years before - it's great fun. And of course, you blog and learn.

I appreciate your coverage here at GCD so much, eventhough parts of it in this case arrives a few weeks after the festival has ended. Still, the films are alive and well (and will be for months and tinier festivals to come) - and it is never too late to give them the coverage and attention they deserve, so that we who mainly attend smaller fests may discover them in time to see them.

Many thanks, Karsten and Steve. Your comments are encouraging, and no, I'm not just saying so.

Hi David
Thank you for the reply. I don't mean that what you're writing is not good, or it's not well received by many including myself. On the contrary, It's very reflective, informative and right on the mark. All what I atteneded to say was that I'm used to find so many other subjects and issues to choose from. Now I don't. Perhaps the coverage of a certain festival -and as big festival as Toronto- should have a special section created after the ending. This way all what you need to do is to click on it and go.
Sorry if my previouswords seemed unappreciative. This is not the case. I assure you.

More importantly, you missed 31 Days, 10/3! Less Toronto, more horror! (But other than that, you're aces!)
