Fall previews (and a quick look back at the summer).
The Academy's "decision a few years back to hold the Oscars a month earlier has changed release patterns forever. The good news for movie lovers is a newly extended fall movie season. The bad news: an overabundance of riches." Chuck Wilson introduces the Voice's preview of the season.
Bill Gibron launches PopMatters' fall preview, dividing the up-n-coming into three categories, "Good," "Bad" and "Unknown." Previewed so far, trailers and all, are September, October and November. Tomorrow, it'll be December.
The Telegraph previews the "Golden Season" for all the arts in the UK.
Rob Humanick lists the best and worst of this summer's movies.
"Hollywood had one of its best summers in recent history, crossing the $4 billion mark in ticket sales for the first time and stockpiling hits to release on DVD," reports Brooks Barnes in the New York Times. "But the movie studios are not quite popping the Champagne - at least publicly. Indeed, to hear many studio executives talk, the movie business is closer to the edge of a cliff than ever."
