With the release of Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting on DVD, the vast and vital oeuvre of Raśl Ruiz, seemingly so far out of reach for most of us, is brought one small but welcome step closer. Jonathan Marlow met the Chilean director in Rotterdam.

Great news. I still remember attending a very rare screening of Three Crowns of the Sailor at the sadly defunct Lux Cinema in London and being astonished by the feeling that film was being reinvented in front of me...

Many film writers are not so sensitive about this issue, which actually is quite important in his films. Mr. Ruiz has an astonishing filmography, and many of these have links with our language and culture.
