Cannes. Awards. Competition.
I doubt all that many people were betting Ken Loach's The Wind That Shakes the Barley would win the Palme d'Or, but there you go.
Other awards:
This is going to seriously fuck with the office pools on Monday!
Seriously though, I think all of us in 'the bu$ine$$' will agree that the REAL winner this weekend is Brett Ratner's X3. Our local 37 year old boy-genius at last makes good on the promise he showed in Red Dragon and countless tabloid articles.
The next young starlett/publicity whore is on us, Brett.
Bless any office with a Cannes pool.

Jury Prize: Andrea Arnold's Red Road.
Interesting. All the news sources I've read are saying Ten Canoes took out the Special Jury Prize. Is this separate from the prize Red Road got?
Posted by: James Russell at May 29, 2006 12:12 AMThere are three jury prizes for the
official competition, Palme d'Or, Grand prize and third jury prize, and Arnold took out that third one. She was also a top contender for a Camera d'Or, or first feature. Rolf de Geer's Ten Canoes got a special prize for Un Certain Regard.
Aha!
Thanks.
