Fests and events, 4/13.

The Boston Phoenix's Peter Keough previews the Independent Film Festival of Boston (April 19 through 24): "[I]n just its fourth year of existence the festival has become the premier such event in this area, far eclipsing the longstanding and now virtually defunct Boston Film Festival."

Cine las Americas

From April 19 through 23, more than 100 films will be screened as part of Austin's Cine las Americas festival; the Austin Chronicle writes up ten, with a promise of more coverage next week.

For the Los Angeles Times, Susan King the best of local screenings - keywords: Elia Kazan, Janet Gaynor, REDCAT and noir.

Wristcutters Erik Davis wraps the Gen Art Film Festival: "Wristcutters: A Love Story took home the Acura Grand Jury Award for Best Feature and, honestly, you could tell the folks from Live Free or Die were pissed." Meanwhile, Cinematical's latest Tribeca reviews: Karina Longworth on Kiss Me Again and Christopher Campbell on From Dust.

Tom Hall: "After eight months of extremely hard work and a tremendous amount of good luck and support from the film community, we wrapped up the Sarasota Film Festival on Sunday night with a sold-out screening of [A Prairie Home Companion] in two theaters and a really great Q&A with [Robert] Altman." All in all, "I am especially proud of the surprises; things I had hoped would go well and went above and beyond my hopes."

Kim Adelman in indieWIRE: "While father/son stories were omnipresent at the 15th edition of Aspen Shortsfest, the short that dominated the closing night award ceremony of the highly prestigious short film festival held April 5 - 9 in Aspen, Colorado was animator Torill Kove's quirky love story, The Danish Poet."
